Is my quote fair?

Foundation and waterproofing quotes for the same house can differ by thousands of dollars. Enter what you were quoted, and we compare it with typical 2026 installed prices for the same scope.

Labor rates swing prices by 15–30% between regions.

Pick the job, enter the size from your quote, and type the total price. We compare it with typical 2026 installed prices for the same scope.

How the quote checker works

Each job type uses the same per-unit prices as our calculators. We multiply by the size you enter and adjust for your region. Then we place your quote on the scale:

  • Fair price: in the lower half of the typical range.
  • Within the normal range: the upper half, common for hard access or premium warranties.
  • Above typical: up to 30% above the high end. Ask why.
  • Well above typical: more than 30% over the high end. Get more quotes.
  • Unusually low: more than 20% under the low end. Check what is excluded.

The checker compares price only. A higher quote with a better, transferable warranty and a proper engineer’s plan can be the better deal.

Red flags in foundation and waterproofing sales

  • “Today only” discounts or pressure to sign during the first visit
  • No written scope listing the number of piers, anchors, or feet of drain
  • Refusing to work from an independent engineer’s report
  • Large upfront payments
  • A warranty that is not transferable when you sell
  • No permit, or asking you to pull the permit yourself

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a foundation repair quote is too high?

Divide the total by the number of piers, anchors, or straps and compare the per-unit price with typical ranges. Then compare scope: two quotes for "foundation repair" can include very different numbers of piers. An engineer’s report gives every contractor the same scope to price.

How many quotes should I get?

At least three for anything over a few thousand dollars. Make sure each quote lists the same units (number of piers, linear feet of drain, square feet of liner) so you compare like with like.

Why are foundation quotes so different?

Contractors often recommend different fixes for the same problem: piers vs. wall anchors, 8 piers vs. 14, interior drain vs. exterior dig. Warranty length, who handles permits, and whether drywall and landscaping repairs are included also swing the price.

Is a low quote a red flag?

Not always, but check what is missing. Low quotes often exclude permits and engineering, use fewer units than needed, or come with a short warranty. Get the scope in writing.

Should I pay a deposit?

A deposit of 10–30% is common. Be wary of anyone asking for most of the price upfront, and never pay in full before the work is finished and inspected.
